A native of Arkansas, Dr. Holly is a graduate of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, where he obtained a bachelor of science degree in zoology with a minor in chemistry. He received his medical degree from the College of Medicine at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. While in medical school, he was a recipient of the Syntex Research Scholarship, which allowed him to work with Dr. Lawrence P. Scheving, a world-renowned authority on chronobiology.
Following his internship and residency in internal medicine at Emory University affiliated hospitals, he completed a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at St. Louis University Health Sciences Center in St. Louis, Mo. While there, he was mentored by Dr. Bruce R. Bacon, one of the world’s foremost authorities in the field of hepatology, specifically hemochromatosis.
