Seetha Lakshmanan, MD

Originally from Malaysia, Dr. Lakshmanan’s medical education began at AIMST University in Malaysia, where she earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, followed by valuable experience gained serving as a medical officer at several major hospitals in Malaysia.

After moving to the United States, Dr. Lakshmanan completed her internal medicine residency at Roger Williams Medical Center (affiliated with Boston University School of Medicine) in Providence, R.I., where she also served as a member of the Resident’s Council and vice-chairman of the Resident's Wellbeing Committee. She then completed a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at Kent Hospital, in Warwick, R.I.

Dr. Lakshmanan has a strong research background, with numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences. Her research has covered a wide range of topics, including women’s gastrointestinal health, novel techniques in endoscopic procedures, and the impact of COVID-19 on gastrointestinal conditions.

In addition to her clinical and research work, Dr. Lakshmanan is an active member of prominent professional societies, including the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the Malaysian Medical Association.

Dr. Lakshmanan joined Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates in 2024.

I chose gastroenterology for its diverse pathology, procedural opportunities, and growing demand. The mix of clinical practice and hands-on procedures offers intellectual stimulation to keep me engaged. As a woman, I’m proud to address the gender gap in this field while enjoying the chance to develop long-term patient relationships and balance my career.

Personal Life

When I'm not caring for patients, you can find me staying active through Orange Theory Fitness or finding serenity through meditation. Spending quality time with my family is also a top priority. My energetic 2-year-old keeps me on my toes, and we love sharing creative moments through arts and crafts, splashing around in the pool, and whipping up tasty treats together.

I also enjoy exploring new destinations, immersing myself in diverse cultures, and savoring local cuisine. Traveling allows me to broaden my perspective, recharge, and return to my patients with renewed enthusiasm.
