Kavita R. Kongara, MD

In 1999, she was appointed Associate Professor for the School of Medicine & Health Sciences Center at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and joined the medical staff at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, NY. At Winthrop Hospital, she was named Director of the Women’s Support Center for Gastrointestinal Disorders and served on the Women’s Task Force Committee for the hospital. In 2006, she was named Associate Chief and Director of Clinical Operations for the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition. Most recently, Dr. Kongara was named Medical Director of Motility at Northside Hospital in Atlanta.

In addition to her special interest in overall digestive health and colon cancer screening, Dr. Kongara treats patients for a wide variety of esophageal and colonic disorders, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). She lectures frequently and has been widely published in leading journals, including The American Journal of Gastroenterology, The Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, Digestive Diseases and Sciences, and Practical Gastroenterology.

She is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association, the American Medical Association, the American Motility Society, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Kongara joined the practice in 2010.
