Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Dr. Fernandez is a graduate of the University of Miami where he was inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society and Phi Beta Kappa Medical Honor Society. He received his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and completed both his internship and residency at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. He completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
During his education, Dr. Fernandez was a frequent presenter at national conferences and lecturer on gastroenterology topics for his peers. He was also appointed as a Clinical Lecturer while he was a faculty member at the University of Michigan.
