Dr. Shamoun is board certified in gastroenterology and brings over 18 years of experience in gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy in academic and tertiary care centers. Dr. Shamoun’s gastroenterology training was focused on advanced endoscopic techniques especially endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and treatment of precancerous GI lesions including Barrett’s esophagus and colon polyps. He treats a wide array of common GI diseases including gastroesophageal reflux disease, liver disease (e.g. Hepatitis C), Crohn’s disease and colitis. Dr. Shamoun also routinely performs preventive GI procedures especially screening colonoscopy.

Furthermore, Dr. Shamoun has special expertise in the evaluation of gastrointestinal and pancreatic diseases with Endoscopic Ultrasound including fine needle biopsy technique. He also has a special interest in the treatment of acid reflux disease and its complications, namely Barrett’s esophagus and esophageal cancer. Dr. Shamoun has expertise in Radiofrequency ablation (RFA-HALO), a new technique for eradicating Barrett’s esophagus to prevent its progression to esophageal cancer.
