Areas of Interest

An Athens native, Dr. Person graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he received a bachelor’s degree in cellular biology. After earning a master’s degree in pharmacology from Tulane, he returned to Georgia to receive his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Dr. Person completed his internship and residency in internal medicine as well as an esophageal research fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He completed his fellowship in gastroenterology from the University of Maryland in Baltimore.

In addition to presenting at many national meetings, Dr. Person has been published in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology for his research in gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) prevention during a sleep study trial. He also received an award from the American College of Gastroenterology for his presentation on that same study.

Dr. Person’s clinical interests include esophageal motility disorders, GERD, and general gastroenterology. He lives in Athens with his wife and newborn daughter. In his free time, Dr. Person enjoys riding his vintage bicycle around town, playing his guitar, and of course, cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs.

In 2016, he joined Gastroenterology Associates of Athens.
