Dr. Woldesellassie began his journey in medicine at Emory University, graduating with highest honors with a Bachelor of Science in biology. He then earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University.

Following medical school, Dr. Woldesellassie completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. His passion for gastroenterology led him to pursue a fellowship at East Tennessee State University, where he served as Chief GI Fellow for one year. Dr. Woldesellassie then pursued an additional fellowship in advanced endoscopy at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Throughout his education and training, Dr. Woldesellassie consistently demonstrated academic excellence, earning multiple honors and awards, including the Medical College of Georgia's Stoney Diversity Scholarship for three consecutive years.

Dr. Woldesellassie has a strong commitment to research, with publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at regional and national conferences. He is also dedicated to leadership, participating in programs like the American Gastroenterological Association’s "Advancing Diversity in GI Training" program and mentoring future physicians through the Physician Leadership and Advocacy Certificate (PLAC) program.

Passionate about patient education and community service, Dr. Woldesellassie co-created The Eating And Cooking Healthy (TEACH) Kitchen, a program educating patients with chronic diseases about healthy diets. This innovative initiative earned him the "Organization of the Year" award and the program has been a part of the Medical College of Georgia for many years.

Dr. Woldesellassie is an active member of several professional societies, including the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Dr. Woldesellassie joined Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates in 2024.

Why Gastroenterology?

I've always been fascinated by the complex physiology of the gastrointestinal system and the impact of GI diseases on patients' lives. I'm particularly drawn to the pancreaticobiliary system, including conditions like pancreatic cancer, bile duct cancer, and bile duct stones.

What excites me most about gastroenterology is its rapid evolution, with new diagnostic and therapeutic options emerging continuously. This dynamic field allows me to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements and provide the best possible care for my patients.
