Dr. Barlow is a graduate of Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, and received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Following his internship and residency in internal medicine with the Greenville Hospital System in South Carolina, he completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia.

Dr. Barlow began his practice in 1987 with Internal Medicine of Griffin and joined Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates in 2010.
