Areas of Interest

Dr. Neal R. Patel graduated with highest honors from Emory University in Atlanta, where he received a bachelor’s degree in biology. After obtaining his medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine, he continued at Emory University to complete both his internship and residency in internal medicine.

Dr. Patel completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta where he served as chief fellow. During that time, he received the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation IBD Fellow Grant and also moonlighted as an emergency room physician at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center.

In addition to general gastroenterology, Dr. Patel has a special clinical interest in swallowing disorders, celiac disease, colon cancer, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, as well as how proper nutrition influences irritable bowel syndrome.

He has been published in several medical journals, such as Gastroenterology, Cancer Research, and the American Journal of Physiology. He is a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Gastroenterology Association.

Dr. Patel has been practicing in metro Atlanta since 2015 and joined Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates in 2018.
