Dr. Harris graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa with a Bachelor of Science in microbiology. He then pursued his medical degree at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile. Following medical school, Dr. Harris completed an internship and residency in internal medicine as well as a gastroenterology fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Additionally, he earned an MBA in executive professional healthcare from Kennesaw State University.

He began his career as an assistant professor of internal medicine at the University of South Alabama Medical Center. Following this, Dr. Harris practiced at Digestive Disorders and Liver Disease Associates in Montgomery, Ala., before transitioning to Kaiser Permanente in Atlanta, where he worked for 23 years.

A diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in gastroenterology, Dr. Harris has held significant leadership positions throughout his career, including serving on the admissions committee for the USA College of Medicine, as president of the National Medical Association’s Capital City Medical Society, and as the chief of the gastroenterology department at Kaiser Permanente, where he supervised a team of 40 staff members.

In 2024, Dr. Harris joined East Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates.

Why Gastroenterology?

I'm passionate about gastroenterology because it combines hands-on procedures with intellectual challenges. I enjoy performing endoscopies and other procedures that help me make a real difference in my patients' lives. My interest in GI was also inspired by Dr. Ralph Lyons, who encouraged me while he was a trainer at the Medical College of Georgia.
